A Swimmer's Paradise
Eindhoven, Netherlands, November 22-23, 2008
In the land of windmills, amongst what can only be
referred to as cyclists paradise, you will find another
paradise: the
Nationaal Zwemcentrum De Tongelreep, nestled
in the Noord-Brabant region.
They don't call it Swimmer's Paradise for nothing. This
state of the art facility is complete with a 4-lane
50-meter training pool with underwater tracking cameras,
a 25-meter pool with a moving floor (0-6 meters) and
a 10-lane 50-meter pool with a depth of 3 meters. The
latter is rumored to be the fastest pool in the world
after Beijing's Olympic swimming pool.
It is in this precise location that
Immersion Freedive Academy and Shop's very own Pim
Vermeulen and Susan Kluytmans decided to organize two
events spread over one week-end.
First on Saturday evening, a special event called
Dynamic No Fins National Record Relay took
place in the high-tech 25-meter pool with the bottom
set at 3 meters. Amidst eleven other competitors, William
Winram claimed a new national and continental record
in the finless discipline with a distance of 154 meters.
Second event of the week-end, the
4th Dutch Apnea Open took place on Sunday.
This very well-attended event (55 competitors) combined
Static apnea in the morning and Dynamic in the afternoon.
Winram sprinted to yet another personal best. A distance
of 205 meters gained him a new continental and national
record. It was also a new pool record for the longest
dynamic ever performed in Tongelreep. Total points between
Static and Dynamic apnea granted William third place
overall.
Very well-organized events. Kudos to the safety divers
who were on the top of their game.
